Some of the most exquisite languages I've heard were in the wild. If you’ve ever heard an orca's call, you know they communicate using a series of clicks, whistles, and pulses. But did you know that different pods have their own unique dialects, and that on the coast of British Columbia resident orcas are more vocal than transients? Transient orcas, like this mother spy-hopping in the Salish Sea with her calf, are hunters who feed primarily on marine animals like seals and sea lions, which can hear their vocalizations in the water. This means that transient orcas hunt silently, streaking through the water without breaching or splashing to catch their prey off guard. We watched this pod stalk and kill a sea lion over a period of five hours. All @PaulNicklen kept telling me was, “It must be terrifying to have these hunters on your trail!” Nature is amazing. Follow me @Mitty and @SeaLegacy to learn more about the future of orcas on Canada's western coast. #ExtinctionEndsHere #ocean #conservation #whalewatching」10月24日 13時09分 - natgeotravel
