(1/2) “After the war, we were very poor. A lot of family members escaped Vietnam; they’d send pictures of America. It made me think more about freedom. In ninth grade, I started to work very hard. I stayed late and got good grades. I was the first one to get a college degree in my family. Before I applied for the student visa, I went to the biggest Catholic church in Saigon and I prayed, ‘This is the greatest opportunity. Please help me.’ I finally got here and finished my graduate degree in computer science. I wanted to work for CIA because growing up, my dad was in the Vietnamese military and they supported the US military, so I lived around a lot of American soldiers. They played with me and gave me toys and food. So I knew CIA was a good place to work. Once again, I prayed before I applied. Now, every day before I go to work, I attend mass, and I pray for what I’m doing.”
