Over the weekend we played in Pittsburgh and after soundcheck I took an Uber to visit the @treeoflifepgh , which is where 11 people were murdered by an anti-Semitic attacker. I was moved to tears just thinking about how many peoples lives were ended or changed forever in those few moments. Families, loved ones and a community ripped open by hatred. As I stood there in silence, I started to recall all of the other mass shootings that have taken place since then, as well as the over 100 people a day who die of gun violence in our country, when it occurred to me that the Tree Of Life shooting took place on October 27th, 2018. Not even ONE year ago. Gun violence has become such an everyday occurrence that it feels like a blur of news stories that never ends, El Paso, Dayton, Gilroy, etc... while thousand of others lose their lives and go unreported. I was moved by all of the messages of love that had been placed at Tree Of Life and just how many people I spoke to in Pittsburgh were still in mourning and empathy for the community. While standing there feeling it all it occurred to me how important it is to remember these attacks, to visit the sites, to connect with the experiences as wholly as we can, allowing our hearts to be stirred and our mind and bodies propelled to action to bring about the change and healing that we need in this country to end gun violence. I thought about those lost, I prayed for their families and I left with a renewed commitment to being a voice dedicated to bringing an end to gun violence. I stand in solidarity with Pittsburgh and those at Tree Of Life who’ve suffered so much and who continue on their path of healing, honoring those murdered and injured through their resolve to what they can to make sure other communities never have to face the horrors that they have endured. I felt like I wanted to leave something of me behind there and tied a bracelet that i had warn for a few days given to me by @salfek .
