Two mass shootings in less than 24 hours left at least 29 people dead and 53 injured in Texas and Ohio, shaking a nation that seems to have grown accustomed to the toll of gunfire in public places.⠀

In El Paso, Texas, a lone gunman walked into a crowded Walmart Saturday morning, shooting with an AK-style semiautomatic rifle. Authorities were investigating the shooting, which killed 20 and injured 26 more, as a possible case of domestic terrorism and a hate crime because officials believe the suspect, a white man, was targeting Hispanics. He has been charged with capital murder.⠀

Barely 13 hours later in Dayton, Ohio, in a downtown neighborhood crowded with bars and restaurants, a man wearing body armor and a mask opened fire with a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle with a 100-round drum magazine. The suspect arrived at the scene with his sister, whom he killed in addition to eight others, police said. The gunman was killed by police about 30 seconds after he fired his first shot, police said.⠀

Both suspects used guns that they purchased legally, law-enforcement officials said.

45shutr I have a great idea. How about we make sure the media runs an endless loop of coverage about shootings. You know, the type of coverage that has no informational value, yet will undoubtably inform every single nut job off their meds that violent acts will ensure the world lends an attentive ear. We need to make sure that all the pertinent questions are asked like: How old are they? What is their religion? What is their race? Did they have a significant other? What were they like? Any favorite colors? What is their preferred midnight snack? Coffee or tea? Vanilla or chocolate? How about those who lived next door to the offender? Were they friends? If not, why not? If so, how many times did they hang out every week? Any friends at school, work, the gym? And on, and on, and on, and on, with nothing that means anything. Just repetitive buzzwords and A LOT of speculation. In 2013 Ted Lieu (a California senator) was swatted by some kids. Immediately, per his request, the media issued a blackout on covering the story for fear of creating copy cat offenders. That is an interesting concept. ONE senator, ONCE fell victim to a crime of whom none which were involved were injured, yet immediate non-coverage of the matter was the first thing that came to mind in an effort to stop further occurrences. You know what’s really interesting? It worked. There was no endless stream of swattings after that. Curious how the concept hasn’t crossed anyone else’s mind? Absolutely! Fascinating! Come on people...think about it. The news coverage of these incidents is designed to invoke emotion, that is it, nothing else. Select media sources are now running articles that only serve to invoke emotion under the auspices of race. Running an article like that can serve NO purpose other than to incite racial tensions. We don’t have a gun problem, we have an ‘information’ problem.

angelkanady I know that the word 'prayers' doesn't save lives i started working in a funeral home for many years and quit in 2000 and i learned more than i ever wanted to and i meant no disrespect to the victims of this horrific crime and it's a shame that someone did this to these innocent people and their is no way to predict the next one so we could save lives.
