Hundreds of fish leaped out of the water at Kentucky’s Barkley Dam after wildlife officials used “shocking” boats to temporarily stun them. This video shows just how bad the region’s Asian carp infestation has become: The invasive species has inundated waterways, deprived native species of food and wreaked havoc on fishing boats and equipment. "They're the ones you hear about jumping up and hitting people and even breaking bones sometimes," said Ron Brooks of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Not sure if they are the same as the “river carp” we have or had here in NYS, but if so, why aren’t the Bald Eagles eating them? Our rivers used to be loaded with carp, but since Bald Eagles have multiplied so much, most of the large carp are gone. I haven’t seen one in about four years. They would get to about 3 feet long and weigh 15lbs. Now I worry what the Eagles will eat since they “fished out” our local rivers.

For those who don’t understand, invasive species are species that somehow end up in a completely different region and disturb the native ecosystem. Ecosystems have a fragile equilibrium and are not capable of adapting to new species Most Invasive species also don’t have established so it is easy for them to become overpopulated. These invasive species can potentially cause extinction of a species in an ecosystem

If they are not the best choice for filet, due to the small amount of meat, compared to the amount of bone. They are still very nutritious and could be processed in soup and pet food.

“Temporarily stunned” - this is animal cruelty. Get humans out of there and do not act superior and decide that they are “infesting”. That’s their home.
