By doing this, you are helping to protect a number of species, including this Sumatran tiger and her five-month-old cub. Palm oil isn’t bad, it’s the way the plantations are established (rampant clear cutting and deforestation) that is bad for animals like tigers, orangutans, elephants, and clouded leopards living on the island of Sumatra. Some plantation owners are not leaving enough room for the animals to co-exist in the area when they clear cut the forest, which forces tigers into settled areas in search of food, where they are more likely to come into conflict with people who will kill them. Protecting tigers and their habitat means many other species benefit—including humans, as the health of the tiger population is directly linked to the health of the forests. Check out the link in my bio to learn how you can help protect Sumatran tigers in the wild.
