Upon arrival this year I wasn’t sure what I was going to invest my energy into this season except for a few sick established lines I didn’t finish off in the last years. However, since the first day of the trip, new projects have been accumulating by the dozen, launching us deep into the vortex of development 🌀Sifting through these ideas of potential problems that may exist can be exhausting; often moves never go, body positions don’t exist, holds can break...no matter how much time you throw yourself at something it doesn’t mean it will be what you were looking for, or that your vision exists in the first place. This can add an element of futility to the game; the art of doing something new always seems easy, yet it can be more elusive than one expects. Open mindedness is clutch yet realism may save you some skin or an unexpected rest day. Theres an empty-handedness that can surface amidst this process, a feeling of mis-direction; nearly a battle between our conscious mind and our inner child...the feeling of playing and not working spawns a sensation of guilt, plaguing the creative process 🥺 I admit it’s not easy to eliminate my expectations of how many problems of a certain difficulty that I would like to accomplish on this trip; it can be hard to trade the security of repeating a climb then pursue something new, but it’s been incredibly inspiring and replenishing on a climbing-spirituality axis to just dive in deep and experiment with some of the most futuristic problems we’ve encountered here in Rocklands so far 👐 It’s always amazing to rediscover the true metronome in your passion for rock climbing every time you may have forgetten what it is and why it exists. rockforest Well said! @dave_graham_ I had the honor of climbing 6-7 days a week pre kids. Actually climbed with your crew back at Lincoln Lake about 8 years ago. The inner complexity that you speak of within is deep indeed. It’s more than just rock and movement. You are an inspiration Dave. Although I don’t climb half as much as I used to, It still flows through my veins. When I’m holding babies and changing diapers, I climb vicariously through you brother! Keep living well old friend!

hammerheadsilver It’s often hard to encapsulate the feeling of something that we love and put it to words, you’ve done that very elegantly here. It sometimes can be rewarding to hear that the people we are inspired by are often plagued by the same mental struggles we face ourselves.
