It was so hot, it was like sitting in a sauna for four hours. But, Traci caught a baseball and I predicted the cubs grand slam at the start of the 3rd. @avpbeach Next Chicago kicked off on Saturday, and we battled through stifling heat, relentless horse flies (I’m literally covered in bites), and rambunctious crowds. Late afternoon, a thunderstorm suddenly rolled in, rain came fast, and the tournament was put on hold until Sunday. Only problem is that we planned on this being a one day tournament, and had booked our flights to depart at 6AM on Sunday. Somehow, we got the saint of all United employees on the phone, and he helped us change our flights to Monday morning with no fee. Thank you Jason 🙏🏼 Not sure if that’s even his name, but it feels right. Sunday, we continued the tournament through bipolar weather. We started to warm up for our quarterfinal match when lighting struck, and we had to take another 2 hour weather delay. So, we had a lovely unexpected Sunday brunch at @thevigchicago. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito. Finally, we were able to start play in the afternoon, and we swept through to the finals, then lost. Second place finish for us. We are a brand spankin new partnership, and this was our first tournament together. On top of that, Traci just made the switch from blocker to defender. Lots of new things, plenty of discomfort. But we communicated, problem solved, and figured things out along the way. I’m so excited to start putting in work with a coach, and keep building.
