For the next couple weeks, I’ll be with a small team of Patagonia ambassadors climbing, pack rafting and generally adventuring through the Arctic National Wildlife refuge in an attempt to better understand the threats that climate change and oil extraction place on one the last truly great wilderness. We’ll also be attending the Arctic Indigenous Climate Summit in Fort Yukon where we will be hearing from Gwich’in chiefs leaders and allies about how this land has sustained them for thousands of years. .
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to caribou, polar bears and so much more. Please support the Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act to #ProtectTheArctic and restore protections stripped by the 2017 #GOPTaxScam. @clare_gallagher_runs @austin_siadak @slukenelson @lennecefer .
.
I’m feeling pretty stoked about this new kind of adventure!

Thank you so much for raising awareness for this important issue. The Refuge is a human rights issue for the Gwich’in and Inupiat and it is also the last great wilderness, free of any development whatsoever, protecting the spiritual value that knowing wilderness like this still exists in the world, that we as a country chose to set aside this land to remain ever free from development, from oil fields but also roads and trails, from visitor centers and interpretive signs, to be as it has been for millennia uncountable.

Caribou is like my favorite meat to eat as an inupiaq native. Thats why i get annoyed when non natives and natives want to "explore" the resources. I want people eating caribou a hundred years from now and if we as people just rape our land, they'll be gone.

@something_scenic I’d fly there on a jet and I have before but not under the guise that me and my corporate sponsor are helping save the planet so we can pretend to be woke while walking around the wilderness promoting ourselves.

Hey thanks for bringing attention to the issue! That territory is worthy of attention. If you're around Anchorage and for some reason need a paddling or climbing partner, hit me up.
