Ilana Wilesさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Ilana WilesInstagram)「On the top floor of an old brownstone in downtown Manhattan, above Mazzy and Harlow’s old preschool, sits a magical place called the Materials Center, run by the non-profit organization @teachingbeyondthesquare. This room is full of objects donated by the community that would otherwise be thrown in the trash (blue water bottle caps, green apple squeezie twist tops, orange detergent lids, clear medicine droppers, broken keyboard keys, fabric scraps, contact cases, etc.), all sorted and organized by color and material so that kids can repurpose them for art projects. There’s a plastics section, a wood section, metals, paper, cardboard, fabric, etc. Swipe left to see all the different areas of the room. Mazzy and Harlow had a field day in there deciding what they wanted to create and picking out materials. Harlow is planning to make a scarf with fabric scraps and Mazzy wants to make a box with a tiny city inside. Everything is purchased by weight and their materials combined came to a grand total of $4. The room is open to anyone by appointment and they donate their materials to other schools. I wish I had thought to come here when Mazzy had to make a diorama for school a few weeks ago! I You can see our whole experience there by tapping my “trash” story highlight. 🌎🙌🏻 #thematerialsroom」5月25日 19時31分 - mommyshorts
