At the Maqu Gesar races in the Gannan Tibetan prefecture in Gansu, China, a nomad leads a horse across grass fields littered with prayer notes on the way to the race track. To send the prayer notes to higher places, the notes are placed in helium filled balloons, which are let go to rise to the heavens.
