Walruses are rather slow and awkward onshore, but in the water they're in their element, and incredibly agile and fast. Bear this in mind when you're nearby in a small boat: On my first @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine assignment to Arctic Russia in 2013, we had our inflatable zodiac suddenly punctured when we surprised a large territorial male in the water.
