Photo by @max.lowe I Staying warm and waiting on the sea ice to form. This female polar bear along with multitudes of other bears sit on the coast of the Hudson Bay of Northern Manitoba each fall waiting for the sea ice to freeze up so they can go out and hunt seals, their main source of food. For the last 100 years that freeze has come later and later in the season, forcing the bears to hold out their summers fast longer and longer. If the ice disappears entirely, that is the end for this apex species, but more so these bears will truly be big white canaries in the coal mine that is our planet; harbingers of whats to come if we don't act now to affect our changing climate.
