Soon after our 2016 cover story on #Flint's water crisis, Ariana Hawk moved her family to nearby Swartz Creek, Mich., where the water’s fine. Her son Sincere’s health improved, and his rashes disappeared. “His skin was perfect,” says Hawk, 28. But the family returned after they lost some of their benefits by relocating, Hawk says. Sincere’s rashes came back too. (Now 6, his rashes have improved but Hawk still applies the cream twice a day.) Two more of Hawk’s five children—Kwame, 12, and Aliana, 4—have tested positive for lead poisoning. The state of Michigan has declared Flint’s water safe to drink but parents are still fearful of lurking #health problems. And many residents still refuse to trust what flows from their taps, no matter what the state says. Ariana's family is back to waiting in line for bottled water, but mostly she buys it—five cases on Monday, five more on Thursday—so she and her kids can cook and bathe and brush their teeth like any other ­American family.
