I wish there didn’t have to be a holiday for nature, that simple gratitude on a daily basis for the natural world that sustains us was as normal as going to get a latte. It’s not. I find myself feeling too far from tasting salt air on my lips, too lazy to watch the sun rise too often. But just the fact that there are cherry blossoms on our floor in a city as vast and dense as New York is kind of a miracle. I can feel something awakening in me that deeply wants to take care of both myself and my home in a much better way than I have, and I feel that’s happening far and wide... and so I have a lot of hope in my heart tonight for the future of this extraordinary planet.
