Thank you @harvardlaw Project on Disability for inviting me to speak about @specialolympics. I really enjoyed teaming up with Special Olympics Global Messenger Melissa Reilly and Prof. William Alford to discuss the positive impact this organization has on millions of people with intellectual disabilities. We also needed to address last week’s scary $17.6 million proposed cuts to funding for Special Olympics and the devastating impact it would have had. Thankfully, with the outpouring of support from both parties, athletes, and people writing their members of Congress, it was rescinded. 🙏🏼 Our Chairman @timothyshriver said it best when describing the Unified Champion Schools that the federal funding supports: "They are a way to promote values like unity, cohesion and tolerance, at a time when this country badly needs a new direction, away from division and hate."
