We are on this journey, sometimes trying our best, other times just crawling by. We have our layers of struggles, strengths, gifts, hurts, triggers, fears, hopes and dreams. We have our loved ones as well as our foes and naysayers. We have experienced the gamut of emotion from love to hate and everything in between. Some of us are pragmatic and logical while others of us are sensitive and intuitive. Our differences can complement or grate, help or hinder, challenge or motivate. Sometimes we’re gifted with keen understanding while other times we misunderstand and misjudge people and situations. We make mistakes. We fail. We get up. We grow. We have varying belief systems, politics, ideologies and opinions. We have vulnerabilities. And even the most thick-skinned of us can feel hurt and heartbroken. We have reasons for why things affect us, experiences that are unique, we have all felt alone at times, and somewhere in each of us we desire peace, love, harmony. I have no answers, I’m still walking my own way through, but this is some of what I have learned: prioritize and protect those you love above all else (it’s worth the sacrifices), stay away from anything that disturbs your peace so that you have room to explore why it disturbs you, enjoy things when they are good (easier said than done at times), focus on what you are thankful for (perhaps cliche, but it works for me when I’m intentional about it), and be kind to yourself (so very important and hard at times).
