Dinner last night chez the wonderful @oliahercules and @joe_woodhouse. I won’t post everything I ate - we’d still be here by next week - but have to bring you this picture of Olia’s Ukrainian rye bread with salo (meltingly good pig fat cured by her fabulous mother, Olia senior) and salo whipped with wild garlic; edging into the picture are some pickled mushrooms. And all were of course eaten with shots of vodka. Next - and it’s pic 2 - the great duck with noodles from #Mamushka (cooked by the mamushka herself), and third picture is of the ‘rose petal’ pickle. I won’t say more about it here, as all will be revealed in Olia’s next book (and it will also have the recipe for the rye bread, which I think may be the best bread I’ve ever had.) Exquisite cakes and pastries were also eaten. And I’m very happy to say I was sent home with salo, bread and cake, and more. Such a warm and happy evening.
