The cosiest of one pot suppers: the actual #RecipeOfTheDay is Risotto Bolognese. It’s not from Bologna, but it’s my - perhaps faulty - way of meaning a risotto- meat-sauce combo. And it’s wonderful. Mere coincidence that it’s the recipe of the day on the same day I posted the chicken and orzo (see previous post). But didn’t Freud say there was no such thing as a coincidence? These gloriously comforting one-pot dishes are always one of my favourite ways of cooking (and eating).

@rav_cay Heh, I’m a freckled strawberry blonde with green eyes myself, as is my nonna. The majority of Italian immigration to Australia was from the south (as for most of the diaspora) so I spent a childhood hearing ‘but you don’t LOOK Italian’ in the schoolyard, because I wasn’t dark haired and eyed with olive skin...

@esurientesun Yes! My mother's side is all from that area, in Treschè Conca. My aunts have red hair, freckles and blue eyes! They walked over the Alps to escape WWI death and poverty. We ate polenta with every stew, at least once a week. Way before it got trendy. I still love it. 💓🇮🇹

@rav_cay Same with my nonna, who came from the foothills of the Alps (near Vicenza) to Australia. She first tasted pizza in Melbourne! We grew up eating sauerkraut, polenta and strudel with our pasta al forno and salsicce

My grandmother used to make this for me growing up and it's a guaranteed go-to when it's cold or the world seems unkind.
