This cuckoo wasp may have the appearance of a beautiful gem, but don’t let those good looks deceive you. This species is actually a parasite, and similar to their namesake cuckoo birds, they lay their eggs in the nests of other species. Like a secret agent of the insect world, adults will spend their days feeding on nectar from flowers all while scouting out popular routes taken by bees and wasps in search of their next victim. lisa.gerard58 I saw one in my backyard last summer here in Montana! It's abdomen had a shimmer and gleam (as it was walking away from me) I've never seen before and I was fascinated.. I took some photos of it and sent them to our local APHIS technician and also to the website "What's That Bug" and both confirmed it was a cuckoo wasp. Awesome! I'm going to look for this insect again this summer. ❤️😃

debifulco Thanks for showing some of the amazing arthropods! We’ve only got one species of Crysididae here in my area but I enjoy catching rare glimpses of them.
