‘Lo Sguardo Altrove’ ? an article by @suzymenkesvogue in our March Issue and today on vogue.it ➡️ Outfits inspired by different countries - Africa, Egypt, India, Japan and Mexico - fill the current Christian Dior exhibition in London ("Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” at the V&A until 14 July 2019). The concept for  the French designer and for those who followed him was to find enchantment in alien cultures, while fashion’s beating heart belonged to Paris. But  today, there is something  uncomfortable about clothes presented  in the western world yet rooted in a distant time or place. What had seemed intriguing or exciting when Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970’s imagined Russian Tsars - or even when 25 years later John Galliano drew on the ancient Egyptian heritage - now seem awkward as fashion gestures. Just as in the world at large, we are now mindful about how we react to different and distant cultures - so it is with contemporary style. Appropriation, however beautifully produced,  is now out of fashion. So how does a thoughtful, modern woman dress in this digital age? What can be defined as a conscious world-wide wardrobe that blends appropriately while crossing continents? Keep reading the article in our new issue.
