Sex in New York City parks? It’s less of a thing than it used to be. In 2007, New York City police officers wrote 432 tickets for “sex in park.” Last year, they wrote 6. Why the decline? Are the police telling frisky parkgoers to simply move along, or have New Yorkers lost some of their lust? The answer may be a combination of both: City parks are more crowded, with visitors walking through even some out-of-the-way spaces; and police officers are also increasingly looking to solve neighborhood problems without resorting to handcuffs or tickets. Phil Walzak, @nypd’s top spokesman, cited a number of factors to explain the decline, including new policing philosophies and a decline in complaints, which he said was “probably driven by fewer overall occurrences.” But that doesn’t mean sex in New York parks has stopped completely. Some people still go looking for partners in the park, according to park visitors and nearby residents. @karstenmoran shot this photo in Fort Tryon Park. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
