#SpeakingInDance | “It’s pretty scary,” said @meltoogood, a former member of the #MerceCunningham dance company, of this difficult duet from “Scenario” (1997), a Cunningham work set to music by Takehisa Kosugi. For her partner, @calvinroyaliii, a soloist with @abtofficial, Cunningham’s choreography is foreign. “I feel like I’m a crazy person attempting to do certain things,” he said. “But it’s almost less about the technique of it and more about the connection we find.” With a laugh, Melissa said, “That means we’re dancing, Calvin.” As they find each other’s eyes and weight, the duet – part of “A Feast of Cunningham” at the @92ndstreety this weekend – becomes, not easier, but less impossible. “Calvin’s torso is amazing,” Melissa told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “That’s usually the hardest thing to coach ballet dancers about, but he’s really good at curves and tilts. The challenge is more the coordination of how the arms and legs and torso go together.
