The kindest gesture from loved ones when walking through a rough day is being gently embraced and loved especially when we make it challenging to do so. It’s easy to meet frustration with frustration, but it takes maturity and strength to see past it, hold space, extend love and intentionally remind us of the truth of who we are and that what we walk through and our circumstances are completely separate from that truth. It‘s ironically not always easy to receive this, for me at least, because we’re typically conditioned to receive snap judgments, misunderstanding, criticism or at best unsolicited (though perhaps well-intentioned) advice. One of the best gifts is to simply sit beside the other and convey you are wonderful, you are loved, as is. Today started out on a frustrating note (understatement) with those unfun reality kind of errands, and right smack dab in the middle of it, some unexpected inner “stuff” started surfacing. Funny how that usually happens during an already unpleasant scenario. And this is where I received the best gift. It didn’t solve my problems per se, but it was an extraordinary gift from Life wrapped in the steady embrace of my husband. From his heart. Until my storm calmed. And afterwards, I felt seen, loved, cherished, and accepted, just as I am. Nobody wants the struggle and stress, but sometimes that’s where the treasures reveal themselves, and I’m thankful for that, for life’s paradoxes.
