First family ski day ✔️ ... For my entire adult life, people have been trying to get me to ski. I always had more important things to do, climbs I wanted to complete, objectives I wanted to try, and I didn’t want anything to get in my way or get hurt. But this winter Theo started skiing at our local ski hill. The enthusiasm and pure joy emanating from him learning a new skill was something any parent dreams of seeing their child experience. Each day I’d take him to ski with friends he’d ask “mom, do you want to ski with me?” And each day I’d say no, hoping he’d understand that my job is to be a climber and I didn’t want to get hurt being a skier. But he’s four, and I could see that he really didn’t understand what I was saying and just wanted to ski with his mom. At some point midway through last month, I realized the most important thing in life was no longer my objectives or fear of getting hurt, it was seizing the opportunity to go skiing with my son and spend this rare quality time together as a family (that I know one day very soon I will regret not taking). Yesterday, we skied for seven hours, it started with him saying “mom, you are doing a good job!” Or “mom follow my lines” and ended with “mom, I really love skiing with you.” Thanks buddy for showing me the important things in life ❤️ Oh, and @randypuro you’re a pretty darn good skier, who knew? ?
