I created this print back in 2009 in memory of J Dilla, in collaboration with B+ @bpleasel. Jay Dee was an incredible hip-hop producer and his impact is pervasive to this day. I love a lot of Dilla’s production for A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Busta Rhymes, but my favorite jam is the Pharcyde's “Runnin” because the song gets people movin’ using unexpected jazzy and folky samples coupled with a killer drum beat! The infectious end result uses ingredients most would have considered having little or no “shake your rump” potential. Join me as we celebrate and honor Dilla’s music and his legacy all month long.
