During an exclusive #nytimes interview in the Oval Office on Thursday, President Trump spoke with our reporters Peter Baker and Maggie Haberman about the Russia investigation, the government shutdown and his plans for border security. @ドナルド・トランプ also spoke with our publisher, A. G. Sulzberger, about the role of a free press.⁣

The interview was arranged after Trump reached out to Sulzberger, and invited him for an off-the-record dinner. Sulzberger declined, saying he would prefer an on-the-record interview that included 2 of his reporters. The president agreed.⁣

Trump declared that he has all but given up on negotiating with Congress over his border wall and will build it on his own even as he dismissed any suggestions of wrongdoing in the investigations that have ensnared his associates.⁣

Sulzberger asked the president to curb his anti-press rhetoric. Trump replied with a request for “a great story, just one” from The New York Times.⁣
