Merlin Alfaro, 31, and her children, José Luis Guevara, 3, and Maydelin Guevara, 7, traveled from their home in #Honduras to Tijuana, #Mexico, at the southern U.S. border with a #migrant caravan in late 2018. All told, more than 159,000 migrants filed for #asylum in the U.S. in fiscal year 2018, a 274% increase over 2008. Meanwhile, the total number of apprehensions along the southern border has decreased substantially—nearly 70% since fiscal year 2000.
