Nothing was left in this 300 year-old home, except one shoe that belonged to a woman who once lived there. Her home, like many others in Varanasi, was being removed when I was there in November, to make way for a wide promenade that will lead to the sacred Ganges River. So much history was being erased. What I could feel never leaving, were the spirits.
