It’s the twilight hour, the world is asleep and everything is quiet. Maybe that’s why I’m a night owl by nature. It’s in the gentle hush of night where my heart can come out whether peaceful, messy, blissful, upset, in flux or perhaps just quiet too. There’s no distractions or noise from the grind of the day, there’s no need to put on a professional suit or happy face. The heart can just be. As it is, living and breathing, and it’s the quiet places that embrace it for simply being. Sometimes I need that. A still knowing and a whisper from its own voice that says, “You’re beautiful and wild. It’s okay that you filter life through me. I’m abstract and work through mystery. At times I’m a paradox and will guide you through the Wilderness but your path will be true. I won’t always be an oasis, there are thorny patches there too, you’ll experience the best of surprises and you’ll feel deep pain too, but I promise I’ll bring fulfillment through every terrain you walk through. Remember that I’m the organ that keeps you alive and I’m also the breath to your very soul. Listen to your mind too, we’re not foes and work well together, but stay close to me always for I can reach you where your mind stops. Never forget that my root is love, that you are loved, and please, let me love you. I’m real. I’m the most real thing that you’ve got.” So often we look for the truth our hearts hold to be validated by other hearts. And when it is, what a wonderful feeling and gift. But when it isn’t, what an ostracizing feeling and maybe a gift too. For if it leads you back to your own heart, then either way you’re strengthened in the end. And sometimes the best thing we can do is to walk our own selves back into that heart-space to be reminded. And the bonus is that it also gives permission for those around us to do the same too.
