An abandoned home in the village of San Miguel Los Lotes, near the Guatemalan city of Escuintla, after a June volcanic eruption. "In the abandoned houses, I felt an incredible sense of quiet. Everything was covered in ash, silent, motionless," wrote photographer @daniele_volpe at the time. "It’s a surreal feeling to be there, more so than in the images I make. Two meters (about six and a half feet) of ash covers the village. Hot, really hot, ash. The homes became ovens because they were surrounded by the ash. The smell, it’s horrible.
