Has anyone lost a loved one or experienced a loss and finding it hard to celebrate this year? _ I have experienced this myself and I wanted to share with you some tips on getting through the holidays. I lost both my parents around Thanksgiving 2 months apart so I understand. _ First I want you to know your loved! If your alone this holiday please reach out to your friends and loved ones. You are so special you may not feel like it at the moment but you have a huge purpose. I know it’s hard but keep pushing through. _ Break traditions and don’t feel pressured to push yourself beyond your limits. It’s okay to take a day trip somewhere that makes you feel at peace. Clear your mind, breathe, and enjoy yourself. _ Volunteer somewhere in your community. For years I never spoke about it but I would volunteer during Christmas at a soup kitchen because I needed that reminder in regards to gratitude for the little things. The smiles on the faces of the people who come in for a warm meal will make you feel so good and you’ll carry that with you. _ I talk about this to my clients a lot in the winter. If you are sad in the winter and don’t know why look into seasonal depression. Major depressive disorder with seasonal pattern is a type of recurrent depression that is caused by the seasons changing. Many people with this disorder develop depression symptoms during the fall, and continue to feel sad throughout the winter.
