The World at Night photography
On this night near San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, I was on a documentary filming project called the Borderless Sky. This spectacular moment came when the moon was rising over the volcanoes bordering Bolivia, with a cactus forest in the foreground. In this single exposure photograph the Milky Way is still visible high in the sky, before vanished by the rising moon. The three brighter spots at top left are Mars, Antares, and Saturn in April 2016.
