Why film? Every image has a story, but for me moments I've captured on film tell a deeper story. .
These 4 images, this moment in time, French teenagers spending their afternoon on the end of a small cement pier with a few beers sharing a pack of cigarettes and taking turns jumping into the cool blue water of the Mediterranean. I walked up and tried to speak with them and 1st grade French, they were nice enough to reply in English ?. .
I hung out with them for a bit and shot a few images of them jumping in - they offered me a cigarette and a beer, then proudly tell me I need to take a photo of all three of them. When they ask to see it, I show them the back of my Leica and explain it's film. Alittle shocked a little confused...why film? .
Those conversations and the sound of the ocean come rushing back to me when I look at these 4 photos. .
Can special moments be captured digitally, absolutely. But the feeling of capturing a moment on film adds an extra layer for me that makes it so real. I'll be talking a bit about this feeling on Saturday w/ @kodakcameraclub_roc & @Bloomingdale's in Century City.
