This Pisces baby. All day long she asks to go swimming, or go to the beach, or take a bath, or to turn on the shower, or to water the plants. We got her her own little watering can and it’s her favorite thing. Yesterday she spent all afternoon going back and forth from the garden hose to the plants, making sure everything had water. “MEA AWA PLEASE!” is her most repeated sentence of the day; mixing three languages to say “more water please”. Since she was born, water has always been her element.⁣ ⁣ It’s funny, because she’s had this weird rash by her elbows and the back of her knees all year and two doctors told us it was a kind of fungus. “Keep her dry, all the time” they said. So we tried. Got special fungal creams and made sure to dry her extra well and to not stay in the bath for too long but still, the rash got worse and worse. Finally we went to a dermatologist. “She has a weird fungus but keeping her dry isn’t working” we said. “That’s because it’s not a fungus”, the doctor replied. “It’s eczema. She needs to be in water, all the time. Take long baths. Go swimming. Moisturize her well. Her skin craves more hydration, not less!”. So we stopped all the creams and just started swimming as much as she wants (which is, all the time). Two days later all the rash disappeared. She hasn’t had an itch since. ⁣ ⁣ She’s just meant for water, this one. What if our children just know what they need? Intuitively, keeping her away from water made no sense but because doctors said so we did. Sort of how when the doctors told me I was endangering her life when I wanted to have a home birth at 42 weeks - intuitively I knew everything was exactly as it should and that she was arriving right on time, but it was hard to block out the fear brought on by the outside world. ⁣ ⁣ Following our intuition is a practice. To cultivate the ability to listen to our inner voice we have to move into that space where the heart speaks louder than the mind. ⁣ ⁣ We need to spend more time in silence. Be present here, now. Sit in meditation. Or, swim in meditation. Watching Lea Luna in the water is meditation, in motion.⁣ ⁣ I’m learning how to get there. After all, I have the best teacher?

It’s funny, because she’s had this weird rash by her elbows and the back of her knees all year and two doctors told us it was a kind of fungus. “Keep her dry, all the time” they said. So we tried.
