Many adults, faced with both their love for the game and the hits that can lead to concussions or neurocognitive issues later in life, are not quite ready to give up #football altogether. Instead, parents have let their children — boys and girls — experience the sport by playing flag football. They’ve helped it become the fastest-growing team sport in the United States. More than 1.5 million 6-to-12-year-olds are now playing the game, 100,000 more than those who currently play tackle football. And while few believe flag football will overtake tackle football as an American pastime anytime soon, the sport has taken hold in traditional strongholds.
