Hi world, Happy Sunday;) Every Sunday I donate my social channels to my @yearsofliving team to talk carbon pricing. If you aren’t already involved, now is a good time to jump in! Today’s post is from Claire Perez, a student at University of Washington. “At only 20 years old, I've already noticed the climate changing in my lifetime. I moved to Washington in 2007 and have been living here ever since. But when I first lived here the summers were not nearly as hot as they have been these past couple of years. Summers used to be in the 80s for about one week of the entire summer. Recently they’ve been around the 80s for the entire summer. Not to mention the last two summers that have been plagued by the ash from the wildfires happening in and near Washington due to the abnormal heat. Another example of the effects of carbon on the environment was when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. This natural disaster was devastating to most whose path it tore through, including the company my uncle works for. The hurricane hit his company's plant destroying and flooding everything the company had been working on and putting the people working on the project out of work for a couple of months. Even though my uncle works for a large company and they contribute carbon pollution, I think his story is important. This story shows that no one is unaffected by climate change. Even the big polluters are affected and that is why it should be so important to these big corporations to emit less carbon. With our current carbon emissions who knows how long it will take for the climate to change. It could be the next couple of years or the next 11 years like I have noticed in my time living in Washington. There are some places on the planet that at this current moment in time are changing quicker than Washington's weather. Places that have more severe weather. Places even as close as the southern or east coast of the United States. Or places further away like the Arctic. This is not just one person's problem. It is a problem and will affect every living thing on Earth. That's why I believe it is time for us to put a price on carbon!”
