A woman from Honduras sits during a general assembly in Mexicali, #Mexico, on Nov. 20 while awaiting the outcome of a vote to determine if a larger group of #migrants would continue on to #Tijuana. The mayor of Tijuana declared a humanitarian crisis there and said on Nov. 23 he was asking the United Nations for aid to deal with the approximately 5,000 Central American migrants, the Associated Press reports. The caravan was mostly well received by the towns it passed through along the way to the border, the AP adds. With the exception of Mexico City, the caravan stayed at most two nights in those places. In Tijuana, many of the migrants fleeing violence and poverty are seeking #asylum in the United States and face the prospect of spending months there before they have the chance to speak with an American official.
