Painted on a grand scale, Pablo Picasso’s ‘La Lampe’, 1931, is one of the first paintings to reveal his mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter, who he had been seeing in secret for over four years.⠀

Before this time, Picasso had depicted Marie-Thérèse in coded terms, such as a fruit in a still-life composition. But in this painting, he shows her Grecian nose and contoured chin, with the yellow lamplight alluding to her iconic blonde hair.⠀
