This artwork by Moroccan artist Lalla Essaydi – a highlight of our Middle Eastern, Modern and Contemporary Art auction in London – continues the artist’s exploration of representing the female body and the intricacies of being a woman in the Arab world.

A departure and continuation of her ‘Converging Territories’ (2003–04) and ‘Les Femmes du Maroc’ (2005–08) series, her ‘Harem Revisited’ works are the most visually stunning in both symbolism and aesthetics, expanding her exploration into the harem as an architectural and social structure of confinement.
