Hello again, it's @gullphoto! This is the Tibbit to Contwoyto Winter Road starting from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories which MAY go as far as Contwoyto Lake in Nunavut (the exact length and route varies year to year). From Seattle, it's about 25 hours of driving to reach the start of the ice road. That's a long drive! I appreciate the slow pace of overland adventuring because there's plenty of time to chat with your travel buddies, eat lots of food, take in the changing environment, and take a nap… or four! The ice road has no services, so when you need to stop, you pull over just far enough to get out of the way of the trucks. Even though there were hundreds of truckers on the road and most were friendly on the shortwave radio, we had 2x the amount of fuel, days worth of food, and we never turned off the car engines to avoid start-up issues due to cold. Think -15°F during winter months! Proper preparation is essential to having a safe, enjoyable trip in this arctic wilderness.
