Desperate search and rescue efforts were underway on Monday in the wake of a devastating 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the #Indonesian island of #Sulawesi and unleashed a 20-foot tsunami last Friday. More than 800 people have died, and thousands more are feared dead. In addition, thousands of buildings in the city of Palu were destroyed — including several mosques, the 8-story Roa Roa Hotel and a shopping mall — and tens of thousands of people have been left homeless. Several areas remain cut off from any assistance.
