There’s one more thing I wanted to mention about my one-on-one trip with Mazzy. In addition to all of our fun adventures, we also had one of our best conversations over dinner one night. And when I say “best,” I mean a totally epic conversation (led by Mazzy) that took so many twists and turns between serious topics, it was almost comical. By the time dinner was over, we had talked about summer jobs, families being separated at the border, the Holocaust, if God is real and menstruation. I love that in the absence of Harlow and her Dad, Mazzy felt safe to ask me about advanced topics and I was able to provide answers for her. There are few things more valuable in a mother-daughter relationship than establishing yourself as someone who will listen, take your kid seriously and tell the truth.
