'There is always an oasis in the desert. In the #Gobi, the entrance to the ice-filled gorge of Yolyn Am is a green, lush valley, and a haven for wildlife. As we hiked along a stream winding through the hills, small, mouse-like creatures called pikas darted from rock to rock, startling butterflies from a carpet of wildflowers. A lammergeier circled overhead. Yolyn Am is known as the Valley of the Vultures. Gradually, the cliffs on either side crowded closer, blocking out the sun, leaving only a thin slice of blue sky above.
