Yarchen Gar Monastery, home to an estimated 10,000 Tibetan nuns. At over 4000 meters, the weather can get bitterly cold and tents and only crudely constructed huts provide shelter. Electricity, sanitation, running water and food supply are also limited. Despite the harsh living conditions devotees continue to come to stay and study Tibetan Buddhism.
