The Nanjing Yangtze Bridge’s 4 lanes were rarely busy when I shot this back in 1982, compared to the 80,000 vehicles that cross the 5,000 foot span today. Built in the midst of China’s Cultural Revolution, it was considered a ground breaking achievement as the first modern bridge built with Chinese engineering. It became a pop icon, its image featured in posters, postage stamps and propaganda everywhere. Foreign journalists were taken here to view the architectural monument as was I back in ‘82. This year marks it’s 50th anniversary with ceremonies honoring its memory, historical and political importance. #nanjing #nanjingyangtzeriverbridge @thesilkroadjourney
