Uncovering history: As part of @royal_collection_trust’s ‘Future Programme’, a number of historical artefacts have been uncovered during an archaeological survey at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, giving a unique insight into the lives of residents over the centuries. The objects found include a medieval shoe, a 300-year-old smoking pipe, fragments of a 12th century jug & the complete skeleton of a horse. Oyster shells & wine bottles were also discovered - which reveals the diets of those who lived at the Palace during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots & James VI.
