The little girl on the left is Lhamo, she is 10 years old and lives in a formally nomadic community in a village on the Tibetan Plateau.

Lhamo was born with out the use of her legs and was later diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Sad fact: In Tibet people with disabilities are not necessarily acceptable so Lhamo doesn’t use a wheelchair but instead gets carried everywhere she goes.

.
Fun fact: Tibetans are FANATICS about basketball and have been playing in a league coached by MIT graduate and former pro basketball player @willard.johnson who told me they like to play aggressive-street ball style!

Here’s what we are going to do: @willard.johnson Came up with the idea that if we can introduce #wheelchairbasketball To the community we can bridge the gap between the able-bodied and disabled and help them understand the people with disabilities can lead fun active lives!

So, I am heading to Tibet next week to donate a Sports wheelchair to Lhamo thanks to the @cafoundation and teach a wheelchair basketball clinic to both able bodied and Lhamo and then have a 3 on 3 tournament!

Thanks to the vision of Wilard Johnson, the power of sport and the freedom of mobility...this is without a doubt going to be a life changing experience for all involved! .
