A few nights ago someone handed me this note at a show. “I’ve been feeling suicidal for 2 months and while you guys were playing, I felt so happy to be alive. Thank you.” I did not read it until a few days later when I was going through the pocket of my pants. I just want to send a message out to whoever it is that sent it to tell you you are not alone. I meet people at nearly every show who tell me they have just lost a family member to suicide or are suicidal themselves. I met two people at the show in Billings who’s young adult sons have taken their own lives in the last year. I am incredibly grateful that our music could be a reminder of happiness in life. I’ve been there myself many times and I know the feeling of deep sadness, isolation and futility. For this #FamFriday, I am challenging (asking nicely) each of you to reach out to someone right now who could use some extra encouragement. I know you know someone.
