Hey y’all, China has made a decision to tighten restrictions on contaminants in plastic they import for recycling, which means that very soon they will no longer be taking a lot of the plastic consumed by America’s plastic addiction, as it will no longer meet their standards for toxicity. This is gonna leave the US with major stockpiles of plastic. A new study says we now face a crushing problem: 111 million tons of used plastic, which formerly would have been sent to China, will now inundate America’s waste stream by 2030. We’re already feeling the effects, with some cities currently sending recyclable plastic straight into landfills and this totally sucks! However, Every crisis is an opportunity. Remember that as soon as plastic is made it’s already a problem in our eco system so the best thing all of us can do is to Reduce and reuse today, support businesses that are moving away from plastics altogether—and treat recycling as a last resort.
